Vernon L. Smith and Associates, Inc. is owned and operated by its founder and president, Vernon L. Smith. He graduated with a bachelor’s degree in Petroleum Land Management from the University of Oklahoma. He is a Certified Professional Landman accredited through the American Association of Professional Landmen and has been an independent oil and gas lease broker since 1976. He has worked extensively in major oil and gas basins throughout the United States in all phases of land work. He has contracted with major and independent companies on an in-house basis preparing Joint Operating Agreements, performing due diligence, and making well trades and acreage contributions. Vernon is a member of the American Association of Professional Landmen, the Oklahoma City Association of Professional Landmen, and the International Right of Way Association.
Kristen serves as Director of the Human Resources Department. Her responsibilities include ensuring that legal requirements, as well as state and federal compliance issues, involving employees and independent contractors are properly addressed.
Kristen received her Juris Doctor from the University of Oklahoma College of Law where she was a member of the National Trial Team and was awarded the Outstanding Student Advocate Award. She is a member of the Oklahoma Bar Association, and is a practicing attorney in the fields of oil and gas, employment law, real estate, and estate planning. Kristen spent two years clerking for the Honorable John C. Duncan with the Department of Labor. She currently serves on the Board of Advisors for the Management Division of the University of Oklahoma Price College of Business.
Suzanne is the newest member of the Vernon L. Smith & Associates, Inc. team. She graduated from the University of Oklahoma in 2016 with a bachelor’s degree in Energy Management. Suzanne is an active member of the American Association of Professional Landmen, the Oklahoma City Association of Professional Landmen, and the Oklahoma City chapter of Young Professionals in Energy.
Suzanne is responsible for securing oil and gas leases, negotiating well-site damages, title curative, regulatory filings, and well proposals. She works directly with our clients, Lessors , the Oklahoma Corporation Commission, the Bureau of Indian Affairs, and the Commissioners of the Land Office for the State of Oklahoma.
